Digging!!

Creating Plant Beds!

Garden Design (2)Following our plan, Dad and Warren have been digging around the garden.

As I’ve said in an earlier post, we wanted a bit of an unusual shape to the garden. It’s all so easy to have straight boarders but they just don’t add character to these straight new build gardens.

The idea from the plan was to create a wavy journey from the house to the bottom of the garden (among the birds and the bees). As guests progress down the garden, they will pass colours and scents all the year round!

Well, that’s the plan.

Dad and Warren have been working hard digging and sieving the soil. I had a go but by jingo it’s hard work!

As you can see in this picture, it’s really starting to take shape! Some plants have been planted and the garden table has been enlisted to help hide the man hole cover!

To make a perfect curve as shown:

Dad put a steak in the ground where he wanted the middle of the curve to be, then tied string from the steak to a spade. Keeping the string taught, Dad stabbed the ground with the spade to sketch out the curve.

I quite like the result but Dad says it’s not good enough and he’s going to do it again. Looks fab to me!
